If the jiva dharma has really been horn, then why can you not point out its antecedent cause? If it had any such existence then alone could it obstruct the eternally non-dual nature of the Turlya by ksrika appearance of’ the manifold. But this does not prove that they necessarily upaniehad all that Buddha or Buddhism teaches.

It enjoys subtle objects. If Turiya were something totally different from the three states, then no scriptural teaching would be effective in establishing it. Therefore the word Sat the text of the Chhandogya Upanishad, the passage under discussion in that aspect in which causality is attributed to it, is indicated by Prana, and accordingly karkka been described in all the Srutis as the cause. Again, if it is said that the effect is produced from a cause which itself is born, then this leads to an infinite regress.

Consider Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4. Being unknowable the Absolute is inconceivable because the truth of the Absolute cannot be imagined by anything less than that Absolute Reality.

AUM, the word, is all this, the whole universe. All beings, too, are free from birth. Vedantic works usually deal with the follow- ing: It cannot be known by any activity proceeding from it as in the case of a cook; because it is devoid of all actions.

The fact of the world may be- mysterious and inexplicable. Mandukya Upanishad, verse 1. As regards the manifestation of Atman this is the illustration.

Objection — Consciousness is seen to change dis- appear in deep sleep. In it, indicated as the changeless and the Supreme Lord, there is a cessation of all miseries. The doubt is this: For, the experience of smoke and fire, as existing together, does not demonstrate non- duality.

It starts with the very question you ask. But a Jnani, once realising his identity with Absolute Brahman, is never misled by the sense of the reality of dual existence. The standard translation of both terms is “consciousness-only” or “mind-only. The unborn Atman is said to be born from the standpoint of the false knowledge cherished by other schools of thought.

For it is not possible for the son of a barren woman to be born either really or through maya.

The Mandukya Upanishad (Gaudapa Karika and Shankara Bhashya)

On the other hand, I consented because I felt that this was an opportunity for me to indicate in some measure the place of Gaucjapada, not among religionists, theologians, scholastics or mystics but among philosophers. That which is beyond the triple conception of time, is also truly Aum.

He who has realized Brahman attains peace. It will be shown later on that the whole idea of cause and effect is unreal.

The Karika under discussion points out that the manifested universe is not non-existent like the son of a barren woman, ft has an empirical existence. That which is conditioned by the triple conceptions of time, such as past, present and ypanishad is also verily Aum for reasons already explained. Turiya experiences no dream or any experience whatsoever for that matter. Gaudapada is little known in the West.

Hence no instrument of Knowledge can act upon it. Mandukya Karika, verse 2. It means “frog”, “a particular breed of horse”, “the sole of horse’s hoof”, or “a kind of coitus”. To refer to an instance or two: In what high regard he is held by the Vedantins of the past is well known. The Absolute alone will remain. For, fire and smoke are objective realities of the same order and seen to exist together by a perceiver.

Otherwise Sushupti would have never been known to exist at all. The Jivas are ever free ypanishad any obstruction as obstruction does not exist being entirely pure by nature. It is present in all sounds.

Enjoy the world by renunciation of the illusory names and forms. Thus Sadhana serves a useful purpose mansukya it does not make the student attain anything new. The knowledge in A leads into the knowledge as U which leads into the knowledge which is M. With the cessation of the idea of the snake, etc.
