Rosie and Asher are amusing and heartwarming characters. This book is about two teenagers — Rosie and Asher — who decide to run away together, Asher because he’s been falsely accused of theft at school, and Rosie because she’s tired of being “good.
I can honestly say that I was tempted to put slashes and turn his POV into nice, tidy verses. Eventually I even have to agree that the stream-of-conscious narrative used for Asher workedas I could see this reflecting the jumbled-up contents of a young teen’s mind.
When Asher is mistakenly accused of stealing, he decides to run away.

But this is not a negative story about the dangers of the road and all the bad things that could happen to you out there.
In the meantime she tried being a hippie, a waitress, a software tutor, a librarian, a mother, a wife and a primary school teacher. Once you are caught up in it, the story weaves a web around Brigid Lowry brings us Guitar Highway Rose a novel told in everything from prose to poetry to stream of consciousness highwy and in multiple viewpoints.
The entire novel is presented in brlgid bite-sized pieces. Asher just moved to town with his newly single mother and desperately wants to leave his restrictive new school and head back across the country to his father and his old friends.
A dozen or so roses hanging from the roof drying. Sadly though, I was bored out of my mind. Both Rosie and Asher were well rounded, relatable character s.
Meanwhile, of course, their parents are going crazy. Here she learned a love of books, too many swear words and how to cook a decent omelette. I can close my eyes, see my room, feel the inner turmoil of teenage-hood and smell the incense curling around in the candle light.
They meet up and after a semi-rocky start, really hit it off. With all that the book deals with, it retains a positive and a bit fluffy atmosphere, in which I somehow kept seeing pink and sunshine.

Brigid Lowry’s Guitar Highway Rose freewheels through the darker and lighter sides of life with wit, charm and compassion. Brigid’s early, rather awful poetry was made into a small book by her father, highwqy printer and typographer, and sold to kindly relatives for two and sixpence a copy. But even beyond that, I thought that the teenagers and the parents we encounter and their issues were too mundane and in parts very lowryy. Her best friend is Pippa, and they share interests in old hippie clothes and adventures, but Rosie still wants something more.
I wanted to live by the sea and have dreads. Rosie tests new boundaries with her parents, brigidd over the issue of a nose ring, and becomes exasperated over frequent confrontations with her controlling mother.
I was extremely surprised to find that this book did so very well in Austrailia. What I am trying to say is that this book is far, far from being bad and it would have been perfect for a younger me.
